Islamabad, Feb 14 (DPA) A suspected US aerial strike killed at least four people in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal region Sunday, an intelligence official said.
Two missiles believed to be fired from a drone struck a house near Mir Ali, a main towns in the lawless North Waziristan district that borders Afghanistan.
“Four people were killed and at least three others wounded in the attack which flattened the house,” the official said on condition of anonymity.
It was not immediately clear if any high value target was hit, as identities of those killed remained unknown.
North Waziristan is a hotbed of Al Qaeda and Taliban militants launching deadly assaults on the Western troops across the border.
The US has intensified drone attacks inside Pakistan after the Dec 30 suicide bombing in the Afghan province of Khost, which left seven members of the American Central Intelligence Agency dead.
In his farewell video message, the Jordanian bomber was seen sitting beside Pakistani Taliban commander Hakimullah Mehsud.
Pakistan publicly opposes the drone strikes, saying they violate the country’s sovereignty, but analysts believe that Islamabad was in some secret agreement with Washington over the issue.
