New York, Sep 2 (IANS) India’s Somdev Devvarman and his Filipino partner Treat Conrad Huey advanced to the second round in the men’s doubles event of the US open here Thursday while the mixed doubles duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza suffered a first-round exit.
Somdev-Huey got past Russia’s Igor Andreev and Igor Kunitsyn 6-3, 3-4 in 67 minutes. They next play the 14th seed Juan Ignacio Chela and Eduardo Schwank from Argentina.
However, the fancied pair of Bhupathi-Mirza lost to Lucie Hradecka and Frantisek Cermak of the Czech Republic 3-6, 6-7.
