Islamabad, May 31 (IANS) The use of contraceptives has gone up in Pakistan’s tribal regions while it has dipped in urban areas, including the capital city, reveal official statistics.
Contraceptive use has increased in the conservative Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), Gilgit Baltistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in October-December 2010 compared to the same period last year, the daily Dawn reported Tuesday.
But, its use fell in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan, shows a contraceptive performance report of the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).
In Islamabad, contraceptives use declined by seven percent.
The government report said that the contraceptives use clocked a huge jump of 84 percent in FATA, 17.3 percent in Gilgit Baltistan, and a marginal increase of 0.6 percent in Khyber Pukhtunkhawa in the quarter of October-December 2010 over the same period last year.
The increase has been attributed to the ‘effective campaign for controlling population’ in these regions, the media report said.
