Brussels, July 2 (IANS/EFE) Edouard Vermeulen, the stylist for Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, celebrated 30 years in the world of haute couture with a show Monday in Paris, where his elegant 2014 fall/winter collection was unveiled.
“It’s 30 years of passion and love for the job. I love fashion,” Vermeulen told EFE in an interview in Brussels ahead of the show.
Vermeulen is known around the world for dressing Queen Maxima for the coronation of her husband, King Willem-Alexander, on April 30 and for dressing several Belgian princesses.
“Ethics are important at work, respect for the product, for the team and the client, and when you can be associated with that for 30 years, I believe you have the legitimacy to continue for another 10 years,” the designer said.
Vermeulen, who was born in Ypres in 1957, pefers to define himself as a stylist and not as a creator of fashion.
Creators “provide a style, but above all their vision of the woman, while a stylist interprets a woman in general. It’s a style in a (fashion) house, I’m not saying that a designer does not make a woman look beautiful, but let’s say that a stylist is more in harmony with his clientele”, Vermeulen said.
