St. Petersburg, May 29 (IANS) Russian Premier League champions Zenit St. Petersburg will face the 2015-16 season without Portuguese midfielder Daniel Gomes.
The 31-year-old was set to re-sign with the club following the expiry of his existing contract at the end of the current season but was unable to come to a final agreement with Zenit management on Thursday, reports Xinhua.
Gomes has been a near-permanent fixture in Zenit’s midfield since signing with the club in 2008, making a total of 138 appearances and playing a major role in Zenit’s three Russian Premier League football titles during his stay.
Gomes has also won 31 caps for the Portuguese national team, featuring prominently in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The midfielder’s next decision will be taken in consultation with his family after weighing offers from several leading European clubs.
