Chandigarh, May 28 (IANS) The Haryana government plans to set up a Sports City and an Eco-City along the 135-km Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) expressway being built in the state, an official said Friday.
At a meeting here, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda directed the setting up of the Sports City and the Eco-City in addition to the 10 theme cities being set up along the KMP expressway corridor.
The KMP expressway is being built in Haryana to ease the congestion of vehicles, particularly heavy vehicles like trucks, going from north Indian states to the national capital Delhi and beyond.
Once the expressway is completed, the trucks and other vehicles not headed for Delhi can straight-away reach Manesar for going to Rajasthan and Gujarat side and to Palwal to go towards Agra (Uttar Pradesh) and other states.
However, the KMP expressway project, which was scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009, is likely to be delayed by a couple of years, the official said.
To plan and develop the area along KMP expressway, the state government had engaged a consultant, Scott Wilson.
The consultant has prepared the project report and, keeping in view the development potential of the area, had proposed different specialised townships like education city, cyber-city, Medi-city, Bio-science city, world trade city, fashion city and retail merchandiser warehouse centre, entertainment city, leather city, leisure city and dry-port city.
