Dhaka, June 3 (IANS) Bangladesh Finance Minister A.M.A. Muhith will present the annual budget through a power point presentation in parliament June 10, cutting short the traditional long speech.

This is the first time when a finance minister will use modern technology to unveil the budgetary proposals in the house.

He will only deliver a brief speech highlighting some of the major proposals, Deputy Speaker Col. (retd) Shawkat Ali told The Daily Star.

The deputy speaker added that the 1934-born minister, who has been ailing, is also not physically fit to read out the voluminous speech.

Presentation of the annual budget in Bangladesh is normally a long-winding affair with details of the state of the economy and tax proposals.

Bangladesh’s budget session began Wednesday with main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) ending a boycott and returning to the house after many months.
