New Delhi, June 3 (IANS) South African President Jacob Zuma Thursday said India was like an ‘elder brother’ to his country that has stood by it in good and bad times.

‘India is like an elder brother to South Africa. Both the countries have been supporting each other in times good or bad, and share a remarkable bond of friendship,’ said Zuma, on the eve of his meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Acknowledging the 150-year-old affinity between the two countries, Zuma fondly remembered Mahatma Gandhi and said: ‘India made a lawyer and South Africa made a social reformist.’

He was speaking a private welcome function organised at the Taj Hotel here after his meetings with Indian business community in Mumbai.
