Dhaka, June 4 (IANS) The father of a girl who was stalked by a youth in Bangladesh died of a heart attack as he feared media attention.

Saiful Islam Munna, a resident of Bogra town, died outside the police station moments after pleading with journalists not to click photographs and run the story of his daughter being stalked.

The tension proved too much for Munna who feared it would make it very difficult for him to marry off his daughter, a Class 8 student, The Daily Star said.

Munna had managed to nab the stalker, Shamim Ahmed, with the help of some relatives and handed him over to the police Wednesday afternoon.

Shamim, a trainee clerk at Bogra Judge Court, was caught when he was pulling Shila by her hand near her school. Shila had stopped going to school fearing Shamim but Munna asked her to go in order to catch Shamim red handed, the report said.

Hearing the news, journalists rushed to the police station and began taking pictures of Shamim and collecting information for their report.

‘Please do not take photographs. If you publish the news, it would bring me dishonour. I would not be able to marry off my daughter,’ Sub-Inspector Khairul Bashar later quoted Munna as saying.

Munna left the police station and collapsed at the motorbike parking lot.
