New York, June 4 (DPA) South Korea Friday formally filed a complaint to the UN Security Council accusing North Korea of sinking one of its vessels, which claimed the lives of 46 sailors.
South Korea asked the council to consider measures ‘appropriate to the gravity of the situation’, following the sinking of its naval ship Cheonan in March.
South Korean Ambassador Park In-kook handed a letter to the council president, Mexican Ambassador Claude Heller, calling on the 15-nation council to begin discussions.
‘I hope the Security Council will start the process according to our request,’ Park told reporters.
Heller confirmed that he had received the letter and would ask the council to discuss the matter.
