New Delhi, June 6 (IANS) A sprinkling of showers in Delhi and some rains in northern India brought the high and low temperature in the capital down by three degrees Celsius Sunday, and the weatherman said the city would likely see a further dip in mercury in the coming days.

Traces of rain as well as a cool breeze have lessened the impact of the dust haze that has blanketed the capital for the past few days, an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

‘Rains in states like Punjab and Himachal Pradesh have also brought moisture to the city, resulting in decrease in the temperature,’ he added.

While the maximum temperature settled at 38.2 degrees Celsius Sunday, the minimum was around 25.4 degrees Celsius, both three notches below the average for this time of the season.

Weather officials have forecast a cloudy sky Monday too with rain/thundershowers, accompanied by a squall in some areas of the city.

‘The mercury will go down in the coming days. The maximum is expected to be around 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will be 26 degrees Celsius Monday,’ the official said.

The humidity levels oscillated between 67 percent and 25 percent.

The capital Saturday recorded a maximum temperature of 36.6 degrees Celsius, four degrees below the average. The maximum temperature recorded Friday was 39 degrees Celsius.

At 34.7 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature in the city Thursday soared to its highest in over 40 years.
