London, June 14 (IANS) India’s Somdev Devvarman and Prakash Amritraj Monday stormed into the second round of the Wimbledon men’s singles qualifiers.
Third-seeded Somdev, ranked 104th, registered a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 victory over France’s 174th-ranked Guillaume Rufin. He next plays American Ryler Deheart, who was leading 6-0 when his opponent Daniel Smethurst of England retired.
US-based Prakash got the measure of 28th-seeded German Dieter Kindlmann 6-3, 6-4 and now awaits the winner of the match between Peter Polansky of Canada and Australian Marinko Matosevic.
In the doubles, the two Indians will be facing each other in the opening round, Somdev partnering Philippines’ Treat Conrad Huey and Prakash with Swiss Yves Allegro, seeded seventh.
