Bloemfontein, June 14 (DPA) Japan produced one of the biggest upsets of the football World Cup so far by defeating fancied Cameroon 1-0 at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein Monday.
Keisuke Honda, who turned 24 Sunday, scored the only goal in a match that saw Japanese organization prevail over African goodwill.
The win was Japan’s first in a World Cup played away from home.
The team, which came into this tournament with hopes of reaching the semi-finals, pulled even on points with the Netherlands, who defeated Denmark 2-0 in Monday’s earlier Group E match.
