New Delhi, June 25 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday demanded the rollback of a ministerial panel’s decision to hike the rates of auto fuels, kerosene and cooking gas.
‘We demand an immediate rollback of today’s (Friday) decision hiking fuel prices… the government has made a mockery of the people’s trust after winning the elections,’ BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters here.
Union Petroleum Secretary S. Sundareshan Friday said an Empowered Group of Ministers headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has decided that petrol prices will be ‘market determined’.
This means that petrol could be dearer by Rs.3.50 per litre, diesel will cost Rs.2 per litre more and and kerosene will be costlier by Rs.3 per litre. Cooking gas cylinder will cost Rs.35 more.
‘The BJP condemns this decision. People are reeling under the cumulative effect of price rise. This government looks to be aiming at finishing the common man,’ Javadekar said.
