New Delhi, June 29 (IANS) The street cleaners working for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in some areas continued their strike Tuesday, even upsetting all the dustbins and littering the roads with garbage in a few colonies.

Members of two of the 15 associations of safai karmacharis went on strike in some parts of the capital Monday, demanding their induction as permanent staffers of the civic agency, an MCD official told IANS.

He, however, said that the strike is likely to end Wednesday.

In south Delhi areas like Yusuf Sarai, residents complained that filth was even spread all over the roads by the street cleaners.

‘They (safai karmacharis) have upturned all the dustbins and littered the roads with garbage. They have spread the filth all over the roads in our area. The MCD should keep a check on them as they have every right to go on strike, but no right to spread the filth,’ said Kanchan Prasad, a resident of the area.
