Pennsylvania, July 3 (IANS) Arjun Atwal gave away three late bogeys and dropped down to tied 14th at the midway stage of the AT&T Nationals golf Tournament here
Atwal, who shared the lead after the first round, shot a disappointing 72 in the second round after first 66 Friday evening.
Atwal, who is currently on a medical extension and needs almost $280,000 more in two remaining starts to get a full exemption for the rest of the year, is playing the $6.2 million event on a sponsor’s exemption.
The tournament is run by Tiger Woods for his foundation and Atwal, his neighbour at Isleworth, is also his friend and practice partner.
Atwal, teeing off from the 10th, opened with a birdie but gave that shot back on 14th to turn in even par. A birdie on the first brought him under par again. Then he dropped a bogey on fourth, seventh and eighth to give away that advantage and the lead.
Tiger Woods, in danger of missing the cut after a first round 73, shot 70 in the second and made it on the cutline.
Englishman Justin Rose, who won the Memorial title on PGA Tour recently, jumped to the top spot with a sensational 64 that took his overall total to seven-under 133.
Australian Jason Day (68) and Korean Charlie Wi (65) shared the second spot on the leaderboard.
