Gurgaon, July 11 (IANS) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda Sunday hoisted the tricolour on a 101-foot high flagpole, a venture of the Flag Foundation of India (FFI) of Lok Sabha MP Naveen Jindal, who plans to replicate the measure in all districts of the state.
The flagpole is installed at Gurgaon’s Leisure Valley Park.
At 20X30 feet, the flag is bigger than those that flutter over New Delhi’s Rastrapati Bhawan and Red Fort.
‘Everybody is equal under the national flag and no one is higher or lower. Every Indian holds the national flag in high esteem,’ Hooda said.
According to an official: ‘The 101-foot pole weighs 1.5 tonnes and its circumference at the base is 430 cm and 110 cm at the top. It cost Rs 4.5 lakh. The flag is made of waterproof fabric. Two spotlights of 400 watt each whose beams are focused on the flag have been installed at the base.’
The national flag would be flown from 101-foot high flagpoles in all districts of Haryana, Jindal said, adding the FFI also planned installations in other states of the country.
‘Efforts are on to hoist the national flag at a height of 73 metres in Delhi before the Commonwealth Games. It would be almost equal to the height of Qutub Minar, which is 74.5 metres high,’ said Jindal, who had won from the Supreme Court the right of private individuals to fly the national flag.
The highest the national flag flies is from a 206-foot high flagpole in Orissa’s Angul district.
