Chandigarh, July 13 (IANS) A tractor ride during labour pains is the last thing that a pregnant woman would want but in flood-hit Haryana’s Kaithal district a bumpy ride on one such farm vehicle helped a woman reach a health centre for a safe delivery.
The woman, Geeta of Tatiana village in Guhla sub-division, 160 km from here, was able to deliver a baby girl at Guhla town’s community health centre Monday.
Her village and its surrounding areas were under flood waters for the last nearly four days and the ambulance sent from Guhla to help her could not reach her village.
A team from the health department, which was able to reach her village late Sunday night, helped her climb a tractor which took her to the place where the ambulance was parked.
Guhla’s senior medical officer Anil Gupta said: ‘On getting information that the woman was undergoing delivery pains late night July 11, an ambulance was sent. Due to floods, the ambulance could only reach a place which was one km from the village.’
‘The delivery was safe and she gave birth to a girl child,’ Gupta added.
