Mumbai, July 20 (IANS) The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Tuesday asked the people of Aurangabad to boycott Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and 75 of his party leaders who were shifted to the Aurangabad Central Jail.
‘We have appealed to the residents of Aurangabad, including the jail authorities that they should not use Telugu to communicate with Naidu or his colleagues. Marathi should be used as a medium of communication,’ MNS vice president V. Saraswat told IANS.
‘Naidu had asked police to arrange for an air conditioned car for his travel to Harsul jail. This is not acceptable. Once a person is presented in the court, he is like any other accused. There are special treatments for none,’ Saraswat added.
Naidu and his party leaders were shifted to the Harsul jail in Aurangabad, about 350 km from Mumbai, after a magistrate extended their judicial custody till July 26 when they refused his suggestion to seek bail and return to Andhra Pradesh.
The leaders, who spent three days in Dharmabad ITI in Nanded district, were arrested Friday on their way to visit the Babli dam project being built by Maharashtra across the Godavari river.
They alleged that Maharashtra is building the dam illegally and that it would deprive Andhra Pradesh of its due share of Godavari river waters.
