New Delhi, July 20 (IANS) The organisers of Ramlila festivities in the capital have been asked to reschedule their trade fair due to security concerns as it coincides with the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games, Delhi police Chief Y.S. Dadwal said Tuesday.
‘We have not asked for a postponement of trade fair, we have only asked the organisers to reschedule the fairs associated with the festival,’ Dadwal said at a press conference here.
The Dussehra festival will be celebrated Oct 17 while the festivities will start some ten days before.
‘We are having an event of national importance and people are more worried about holding ‘melas’ (fairs),’ Dadwal said, countering a series of questions put up by the journalists.
About reports that the city police have asked for 25,000 passes for the Games, he said: ‘We have not asked for even a single pass, we asked for only accreditation. The number is much less than what is published in the media reports. Over 75 percent of our personnel will be deployed outside the stadiums.’
