New Delhi, July 21 (IANS) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Wednesday ordered a probe to find out how the newly built Civic Centre got flooded after a brief spell of rain.

The report is to be submitted in three days. The 28-storey building was inaugurated only three months ago by Home Minister P. Chidambaram.

The announcement followed noisy protests by Congress members who demanded that the Malaysian contractor be blacklisted.

Jai Kishan Sharma, leader of the opposition in MCD, said: ‘The building has been built for Rs.650 crore and it was called an engineering marvel. But just a few hours of rain and the whole basement and ground floor got flooded.’

MCD’s chief engineer Ravi Dass said: ‘The building is safe and it is built using quality material. The reason for the leakage is being checked.’
