Panaji, July 23 (IANS) Goa will build two or three concrete transport corridors exclusively to transport ore using funds from the state’s mining industry, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat Thursday said.
Replying to a debate on mining during the monsoon session of the Goa legislative assembly, Kamat also said the Rs.6,000 crore open cast mining industry in Goa had agreed to shell out Rs.500 crore towards a corpus for creation of mining related infrastructure.
‘The mining corridors will be created in Goa at the cost of exporters. The mining industry has agreed to pay the costs,’ Kamat further said, adding that a steering committee under the chairmanship of the chief secretary had already been set up to oversee implementation of the exclusive mining corridors.
Road accidents, involving mining trucks have been on the rise of late. The accidents in the mining belt had triggered a lot of outcry.
