New Delhi, July 23 (IANS) Four members of a family were drugged and robbed by their domestic help in their house in north Delhi, police said Friday.
The incident came to light at around 11 a.m. when a maid of the family knocked at the door of their three bedroom flat at the posh Ganpati Apartments of Civil Lines.
The door was open and the maid entered the house. She found Anil Maheshwari, 55, a manufacturer of wall clocks, his wife Urmila Maheshwari, 50, son Manu, 26, and daughter-in-law Tanish, 25, lying unconscious while Manu and Tanish’s six-year-old son, Aarav, was crying inside a room, a police officer said.
‘The maid servant saw Anil Maheswari lying unconscious on his sofa while his wife was inside the bedroom. His son and daughter-in-law were on the floor unconscious. The kitchen was very clean, there were no dirty dishes in it. It isn’t clear whether the family was drugged at dinner or in the morning. The house has also been ransacked completely,’ said the police officer.
Sanjeev Agarwal, a neighbour of the Maheswaris said: ‘The maid servant came to us and told us about what she had seen. All of us (neighbours) got together and informed the police. Also, we rushed them to the nearby Sant Parmanand Hospital.’
The police suspect the domestic help of the family, Shambu, in his early 20s, to be behind the incident. He has been missing after the incident.
Shambu, originally from Bihar, was working with the family for the last 10-12 days. He was staying in the servant quarters located at the terrace of the building.
The police officer said another servant, Ranjay, who was also working in another house in the building, was also missing since the incident came to light.
