Colombo, July 23 (IANS) More than a year after it crushed the Tamil Tiger rebels, the Sri Lankan government is in the process of tracking down the rebels’ support bases overseas, Xinhua reported Friday.
Military spokesman Brigadier Ubhaya Madawela told reporters here Friday that the troops are currently searching the documents of rebels who are in its custody.
‘We are gathering information on people who had been helping the terrorists,’ Madawela said.
He added that the military has found many documents of the rebels and the government will seek Interpol’s help to identify the individuals.
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) had received massive support from the Tamil diaspora living mainly in western nations.
The over three-decade conflict ended in May 2009 with the government troops defeating the rebels.
