New Delhi, July 30 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary Vijay Goel Friday demanded a judicial probe into the alleged corruption in execution of Commonwealth Games projects.
Referring to reports of the Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) putting under the scanner some Games related projects for alleged irregularities, Goel alleged that ‘substandard materials had been used in the construction all over’.
He said the expenditure had over shot the approved outlays many times over. ‘The expenditure, which in 2007 was approved for Rs.3,390 crore, has now gone to Rs.80,000 crore,’ Goel said, in a statement released here.
He also alleged there was a deliberate delay of four years in commencing the work for the Commonwealth Games with a view to inflate the expenditure. Goel has demanded a high-level judicial probe into the delays and alleged corruption. He, however, said this may be conducted after the Oct 3-14 Games.
Goel also expressed hope the projects would meet their deadlines. ‘But this seems to be, as things stand today, a near impossibility,’ he added.
