New Delhi, Aug 4 (IANS) Janata Dal-United (JD-U) president Sharad Yadav Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction over the government’s reply to the debate in the Lok Sabha on price rise, saying this cannot be seen as a consequence of GDP growth.
‘What reply did we get? The government said that the increase in prices is a result of GDP growth,’ Yadav said when asked to comment on the government’s reply to debate.
He said that while the government had ascribed rising food prices to better remuneration given to farmers, no steps had been taken to reduce middlemen who profitted the most.
‘Has the government taken steps to reduce the gap between the farm price and the retail price? Has it moved to reduce the layer of middlemen?’ he asked.
Yadav, who is the convenor of the National Democratic Alliance, said he would talk to opposition leaders about the next phase of the struggle against price rise.
‘Let us see what steps the government takes in response to what the speaker has said in the house after the debate,’ Yadav said.
At the conclusion of the debate, the Lok Sabha adopted a motion calling upon the government to take effective action to contain the inflationary pressures on the economy and their adverse impact on the common man.
The motion was read out by Speaker Meira Kumar, who took the sense of the house after the reply by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and the response of Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj.
