Beijing, Aug 5 (IANS) The charges at a Chinese parking lot are based on the length of the vehicle and not on the number of hours it stays parked.
Global Times Wednesday reported that the parking lot in Lanzhou, the capital of northern province of Gansu, was now charging vehicles according to the length of the vehicles rather than by hour or tonnage.
The parking lot increases the parking fee in proportion to the length of the vehicle, which is measured from the rear-view mirror to the end of the vehicle’s body.
The rates are posted at the entrance of the parking lot. There are 31 rates for different types and lengths.
An employee said heavy vehicles, regardless of the loaded weight, have to pay 50 percent extra.
The Lanzhou price bureau, however, said that it was illegal to charge by length of the vehicle.
Parking lots are only permitted to charge by the duration of time the vehicle is parked, or according to the tonnage of the vehicles, said an official.
