New Delhi, Aug 5 (IANS) Eleven government officials have been booked since 2005 for their nexus with travel agents to facilitate illegal emigration, parliament was informed Thursday.
‘In the case of PoE (Protector of Emigrants) offices at Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chandigarh, 11 government officials were inviolved,’ Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
‘Sometimes, cases come to light of unscrupulous registered recruiting agents obtaining emigration clearance certificates by furnishing fake or forged documents in collusion with some officials of the PoE offices. In such cases, appropriate departmental disciplinary action is taken against officials concerned,’ said Ravi.
The PoE office in Chandigarh had the largest number of six officials booked after raids by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
While two of them have been convicted by a CBI court, two have been granted pardon after turning approver. One case is pending in court, while one official was acquitted after been given the benefit of doubt.
At the Delhi PoE officials, two officials were booked – one in 2005 and another in 2009.
