Beijing, Aug 6 (IANS) A fire engulfed a gold mine in east China’s Shandong province late Friday, trapping at least 50 people underground, authorities said.
Altogether 64 people were initially trapped when the fire broke out at the Lingnan Gold Mine in Zhaoyuan, a spokesman with the Shandong Provincial Emergency Affairs Office told Xinhua, adding over 11 had been lifted to the ground safely.
The provincial government had launched a rescue operation, he added.
