London, Aug 8 (IANS) England and Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson has decided to retire from international football ahead of England’s friendly against Hungary Wednesday.

Robinson was picked in the final squad for the friendly at Wembley by coach Fabio Capello but the former Tottenham keeper withdrew his name at the final moment.

He was earlier dropped from the England squad for the World Cup in South Africa.

‘Only now have I been able to make this decision as previously I haven’t been in contention for selection. I don’t see myself as a number three or four keeper and find that role very frustrating,’ Robinson was Sunday quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

The goalkeeper played in 41 internationals before calling it a day. He made his debut against Australia and was a first choice keeper during the 2006 World Cup qualifiers and then for the finals in Germany. He lost his place in the team after he made some errors during the Euro 2008 qualifiers.
