Stirling (Scotland), Aug 17 (IANS) Commonwealth Games Scotland (CGS) and Tennis Scotland Tuesday announced the team for the Oct 3-14 Games in New Delhi.
The team comprises doubles specialists Jamie Murray and Colin Fleming in the men’s category while Elena Baltacha (their highest ranked player at 56), Mhairi Brown and Jocelyn Rae will compete in the women’s event.
Euan Mcginn is the team coach while Pete Nicolson is the team leader. It is the first time tennis has been included in Commonwealth Games.
‘It is always exciting to welcome a new sport to Team Scotland and we are delighted to have the tennis players now confirmed. Given the extreme pressures of the professional circuit we are delighted that players like Elena, Colin and Jamie have made the commitment to play for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games,’ said Michael Cavanagh, Chairman of Commonwealth Games Scotland.
The tennis competition will take place at the R. K. Khanna Tennis Stadium from Oct. 4-10.
