New Delhi, Aug 24 (IANS) India has taken fresh initiatives to conclude the Doha round of multilateral trade negotiations, Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma said Tuesday.
‘We have taken the initiatives to re-energise the talks,’ Sharma said at a CII event here, adding that all the negotiating members need to show flexibility in their approach.
‘There is a need to give a fresh impetus to the global trade. Successful conclusion of Doha round is in everybody’s interest,’ he said, urging the key negotiating members especially the US and the EU to show more flexibility.
Doha round of trade negotiations of the WTO, launched in the Qatari capital in 2001, aims to boost global trade by reducing barriers.
Sharma said protectionism from developed countries would hurt global trade and might derail the global economic recovery.
