New Delhi, Aug 26 (IANS) As rains flooded Delhi roads and led to traffic jams Wednesday, the Delhi Metro recorded its highest ever ridership with over 13 lakh (1.3 million) people using the modern transport system, an official said Thursday.
The ridership figure of 1,360,017 Wednesday surpassed the earlier record set Aug 23 when about 1,312,030 people used the Metro, a Delhi Metro spokesperson said.
The Dwarka sector 9 to Noida city centre Metro line recorded the maximum ridership at 429,077, followed by Rithala-Dilshad Garden line at 313,898.
The Metro line from Jahangirpuri to Central Secretariat was used by 312,478 people.
The spokesperson said the Delhi Metro ridership has consistently been crossing the 11-lakh (1.1 million) mark in the last few months, but this week it crossed the 13 lakh (1.3 million) mark twice.
At least one new train is being added to the existing fleet of Metro every 10-15 days, the official said.
Delhi Metro trains are traversing over 40,000 km a day, making over 2,000 trips on five operational lines spread over 125 km.
