Karachi, Aug 27 (IANS) The Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour event which was scheduled to take place in September in Islamabad has been cancelled due to the unprecedented floods across Pakistan.
‘You would appreciate that the country is in deep crisis these days – all available resources in the country are being utilised to rescue the lives of people and extend all out administrative support to the affected areas,’ Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) secretary Irfan Asghar said on Friday.
‘We at PSF therefore regret that, at this critical stage, we would not be able to hold CAS International Squash Championship in last week of September 2010.’
Hundreds of people have died and almost 20 million have been displaced by the devastating floods in Pakistan.
In supporting the PSF’s decision, PSA Tour Executive Sheila Cooksley responded: ‘We have all been shocked by the recent disasters taking place in your country. It is heartbreaking to see the plight of the people in the country. It is indeed a very deep crisis and our sympathies and condolences go to all those affected.’
‘The PSA will continue to support your efforts in your country. We do appreciate all that you do for your players to maintain their participation in the international squash arena.’
