New Delhi, Aug 29 (IANS) He might be reclusive and shy but designer Rajesh Pratap Singh lets his work do the talking. Maintaining the trend, he set the ramp on fire with his Rock ‘n’ Roll-inspired collection on the final day of the Van Heusen India Men’s Week (VHIMW) Sunday.
Celebrating the self-acclaimed last standing true believers and the times that saw the actual spirit of Rock ‘n’ Roll, the show started in a perfect mood with an animal print runaway, skeleton heads dangling from the ceiling and a masked Christ on the cross.
Despite being a men’s week, the show commenced with a female model strutting on the ramp like a feline and was followed by men and girls both walking with poise and panache – symbolising a unisex feel for the numbers.
The capital boasts of nearly 120 bands that still worship Rock ‘n’ Roll and whatever is left of it, and complimenting the same were musicians from Delhi’s bands like Parikrama, Advaita, Bandish, Half Step Down, Seven Degrees and Medieval Punditz to name a few, who sashayed on the runaway with lot of punk and grunge not to miss the don’t-give-a-damn attitude.
With classic menswear pinstripes and denim in its original avatar, the palette was all washed out vegetable colours, rust, Jaisalmer rust, indigo, red stone – reflecting a deep thought process influenced by Rock ‘n’ Roll.
There were accessories in abundance – ankle-length boots, men with nose pins, crumpled linen suits, Negro heads, metal and silver jewellery for men crafted for the occasion and disheveled cargo Jodhpurs were a treat for the eye.
Fit and flare, soft flower dressing, slim fit jackets with shorter lapels, two, three, four buttons – it was just a numbers game at this mind-my-own-business designer’s enviable and go-get-it collection.
And like always, Singh made sure he escaped media queries with no post-show conference.
