London, Sep 3 (IANS) A drunk motorist in Britain was nabbed by police after he took a wrong turn and went straight into the car park of the police headquarters.

Edward Gallagher lost his bearing while driving back home from a night out with friends last month. He was spotted on a private road leading to the Central Scotland force’s staff lot in Stirling, The Sun reported Friday.

Policemen saw him sitting in his car with the engine running and suspected that he was drunk.

‘Police officers had cause to suspect he was under the influence of alcohol. When they went to the accused’s car there was a strong smell of alcohol and he was slurring his words.

‘A breath specimen was taken and he was found to be more than twice the legal limit,’ an official told the Stirling Sheriff Court Thursday.

Gallagher admitted to drunk driving.

Gallagher’s lawyer, Ken Dalling, said his case clearly showed ‘why people shouldn’t drink and drive’.

‘This is a 52-year-old man, who resides with his wife. He worked in the building industry for 28 years and the business he worked for went into receivership two years ago. He attempted to set up his own business but that didn’t work out.

‘On the day in question he was socialising with friends and drove in to meet them. He had planned to get the bus home but instead decided to drive. He ended up in police HQ,’ said Dalling.
