Kolkata, Sep 7 (IANS) Despite a general strike Tuesday called by eight trade unions, national carrier Air India operated 22 flights from the city, a company statement said here.

‘Out of the 24 flights scheduled to operate from the city today, Air India – along with Air India Express and Alliance Air – operated as many as 22 flights, including international sectors like Bangkok, Dhaka, London and New York via Delhi,’ it said.

A total of 22 flights of Air India arrived in the city.

An Airbus flight to Kathmandu and an ATR flight to Guwahati were cancelled.

A few flights to the northeast – one to Dimapur and another to Dibrugarh – were combined with the scheduled flights to Bagdogra and Guwahati for operational reasons and poor load. Two flights, out of the scheduled five flights to the capital from Kolkata, were also combined, it said.
