New Delhi, Sep 7 (IANS) Rashid Khan will lead the Indian men’s golf team for the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China from Nov 12.

Abhijeet Chaddha, Rahul Bajaj and Abhinav Lohan are other players in the four-member squad. Ashbeer Saini is the reserve player.

A lot will be expected from 19-year-old Khan, a two-time Faldo Series Asia champion and Asia’s highest ranked amateur player.

Shreya Ghei, Vani Kapoor, Gurbani Singh comprise the women’s team for the Asian Games. Shradhanjali Singh is the reserve player.

‘I am glad the team has been chosen early which gives adequate time for the team members to travel, train and live together,’ national coach Peter Murphy said.

‘Each individual now has the experience and understand the importance of pulling for one another, especially when the chips are down. This will have a positive impact on teams’ performance.’

The president of India Golf Union (IGU) Ashit Luthra said: ‘As the standard for selection is getting increasingly stringent, The Indian Golf Union follows a policy of inviting players based on the Merit list to participate in trials in a completely fair and transparent manner. Thus this process has, by and large, been free from controversies.’

The men’s will play in Eishenhower Cup in Buenos Aires, Argentina from Oct 16-19 before flying off to Guangzhou for their event scheduled Nov 12-15.
