Chandigarh, Sep 12 (IANS) Haryana’s ruling Congress Sunday authorised party president Sonia Gandhi to appoint the next state unit president.

The decision was taken unanimously at a meeting of state-level delegates, including present state Congress president Phool Chand Mullana and Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, here Sunday.

Of the 178 delegates, 172 attended while others sent their consent for the resolution to the state unit president.

‘It was unanimously resolved that the matter regarding elections of president, vice presidents, treasurer, general secretaries, secretaries and executive committee of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee be left to Sonia Gandhi, president, Indian National Congress,’ the resolution, moved by Mullana, said.

Hooda said that there was no directive from the party for a resolution authorising Gandhi to appoint the state president and other office bearers.

‘It was the sentiment of all in the party that she be authorised for the same,’ Hooda added.
