Abu Dhabi, Sep 12 (IANS/WAM) A team from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) stationed in the flood-hit areas of Pakistan distributed clothes to over 700 people on the occasion of Eid, officials said Sunday.
The Red Crescent Authority (RCA) team distributed new clothes to the people living in relief camps on the outskirts of Peshawar.
In Babi village in Peshawar, makeshift camps at three schools now accomodate over 3,100 people whose homes were destroyed by the floods, said Mohammed Nadim, an official in charge of relief operations.
‘These displaced people will soon face an unknown future when they have to leave the schools at the start of the new academic year. They have nowhere to go,’ he said.
Meanwhile, health authorities have reported an outbreak of skin diseases, intestinal infections and diarrhoea among the flood-hit people.
Over 1,600 people have been killed in one of the worst ever natural disasters in Pakistan, which has also inflicted losses worth billions of dollars to homes, infrastructure and the agriculture sector.
