Dubai, May 8 (Inditop) Australia’s stand-in captain Brad Haddin and all-rounder Shane Watson have been fined for showing dissent at umpiring decisions in Thursday’s Twenty20 game against Pakistan in Dubai.
Watson was fined 25 percent of his match fee and Haddin 15 percent after pleading guilty to level one breaches of the International Cricket Council’s code of conduct.
Watson was fined for making “verbal and physical signs of dissent” when adjudged lbw by Pakistan umpire Aleem Dar. Watson hit his bat with his hand before continuing to protest as he left the field.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Haddin was fined 15 per cent of his match fee after he pointed his bat to umpire Zameer Haider when Andrew Symonds was given out lbw. Haddin said “there was bat involved”.
Match referee New Zealand’s Jeff Crowe said: “Both players immediately pleaded guilty to the charges and were very apologetic about their actions. While I understand that players will feel frustrated at times, both Brad and Shane were quick to acknowledge that they needed to accept the umpire’s decision without gesture or verbal complaint.”
Pakistan won the game by seven wickets, but lost the five-match series 2-3.
