Guwahati, May 8 (Inditop) A villager was shot at and injured and about 50 houses set ablaze by militants in Assam Friday, officials said.
A group of about 10 to 15 heavily armed militants attacked village Jorai in Assam’s North Cachar Hills district, about 300 km south of here, police said.
After entering the tribal village, the militants opened indiscriminate fire and as the villagers fled, they set about 50 houses ablaze, a police official said.
One villager was injured in the firing.
The immediate provocation for the attack was not known.
“We are yet to find out which militant group attacked the village,” the official said.
Police reached the village after several hours of trekking through dense jungles and wading through a stream.
