Mumbai, May 8 (Inditop) The trial of the Mumbai terror attacks started Friday in a special court here as the first witness identified the lone captured terrorist Ajmal Amir Kasab as the man who shot dead Assistant Sub Inspector Tukaram Omble on Nov 26 night last year.
Bhaskar Kadam, a police sub inspector, deposing before Additional Sessions Judge M.L. Tahaliyani inside the high-security Arthur Road prison said that it was Ajmal Amir Kasab who shot dead ASI Omble on Nov 26 night last year.
Kadam told the court that Kasab fired at Omble, but the latter pounced on the terrorist in an attempt to disarm him.
Omble died on the spot and was later conferred Ashok Chakra for exemplary courage.
In the next few months around 100 witnesses will be called to testify and that will be followed by cross-examination by the defence lawyers.
Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam conducted the examination of Kadam.
Kasab was one among 10 militants who unleashed a blood bath in Mumbai Nov 26-28 that killed over 170 people. While Kasab was captured, nine other terrorists were killed after a 60-hour gunbattle with the security forces.
