New Delhi, Sep 14 (IANS) The government’s revenue from indirect taxes which include customs, central excise and service tax, surged nearly 46 percent to Rs.1,24,170 crore in the first five months of this fiscal.
Revenue collections from customs surged the most, recording 66.5 percent jump over the previous year’s period. The total collections from customs rose to Rs.51,866 crore during April-August period, according to official data released Tuesday.
Collections from central excise increased 41.7 percent to Rs.49,672 crore while the government’s revenue from service tax rose 19.8 percent to Rs.22,632 crore during the first five months of fiscal 2010-11.
According to data released by finance ministry last week, direct tax collection increased 13.91 percent to Rs.1,00,112 crore during April-August period.
