London, Sep 15 (IANS) A coffee machine exploded at a supermarket cafe in Britain, injuring seven people.

The explosion was so powerful that it hurled the machine across the room and it slammed into a wall of the Sainsbury’s store, Daily Express reported Wednesday.

Six of the injured were taken to hospital and one of them had head, arm and eye injuries.

The blast took place at lunch time at Sainsbury’s in the Kingsmead shopping centre in Farnborough, Hants.

The store stated that a pipe in the coffee machine had ruptured.

‘We heard a bang. It sounded like something had hit the side of the house. It was like an army shell going off in the distance. We also felt a vibration,’ Georgina Sharp, a customer service assistant, was quoted as saying.

Sainsbury’s spokeswoman Hannah Chance said: ‘Seven people sustained minor injuries when a pipe in a coffee machine ruptured.’
