Bangalore, Sep 18 (IANS) Abdul Karim Telgi, kingpin in the multi-million rupee fake stamp paper scandal, was Saturday sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.50,000 by a court here.

Saturday’s sentence by Special Court Judge Chandrashekhar Patil was in connection with a case filed in 2001 in Bangalore.

Telgi has been convicted in more than 40 such other cases across the country, including seven in Bangalore.

The court also sentenced 16 other associates of Telgi to five years rigorous imprisonment and also directed them to pay a fine of Rs.10,000 each.
