Chandigarh, Sep 19 (IANS) Getting away with a traffic violation ticket will no longer be easy in Haryana with the state police Sunday announcing its plans to shortly introduce e-ticketing.
Home Secretary Krishna Mohan said: ‘E-ticketing is being introduced to check traffic violations, especially by repeat offenders, more effectively.’
Mohan said: ‘The e-challaning system would comprise a computer-based centralised database of vehicles, driving licences and traffic violations and hand-held devices with the field staff to provide them real time connectivity with the main server.’
‘The system of enforcement of traffic rules is manual. Erring vehicles or drivers are issued challans. They have the option to pay a fine on the spot or appear in the court later. The system being manual, the police officials have no access to the traffic violation history of the vehicle or driver,’ he said.
With the new e-ticketing system, the traffic violations of repeat offenders will be kept under check.
About 4,500 people are killed in Haryana in road accidents every year.
