New Delhi, Sep 23 (IANS) The Delhi Police’s ‘Eyes and Ears Scheme’ bore fruit Thursday when a woman accused of bag-lifting was arrested from a mall in Saket locality here.

‘Her photographs were circulated among the local residents under the ‘Eyes and Ears Scheme’ of the Delhi Police. She was arrested when she came to the Select City Walk mall to commit another theft,’ said a senior police official.

The lady, Sunita Sharma (42), was caught on the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage while she was lifting a bag inside a showroom at the Saket mall.

Since January this year, Sunita committed three acts of bag-lifting from various shops in the mall and allegedly amassed thousands of rupees, mobile phones, credit cards and jewellery.

‘After arrest, she took names of several influential officials to pressurise the investigating officers, but when she was shown the CCTV footage in which she figured, she broke down and admitted to her involvement in the incidents,’ a senior police official told IANS.

The police official added that she was found involved in several bag-lifting cases in Karol Bagh, Sarojini Nagar, Central Market, Lajpat Nagar and the like.

Sunita reportedly was running a guest house at loss, and with no one to assist her, she took to this method as an alternative source of income, by which she refurnished the rooms of her guest house.

A sum of Rs.65,000 and a driving licence of one of the complainants were recovered from her.
