New Delhi, Sep 24 (IANS) India is a safe destination, US ambassador Timothy J. Roemer said Friday even as some countries raised security concerns ahead of the Commonwealth Games here in October.
‘I and my wife have travelled all over India. My family and I feel very safe, the people are very heart warming,’ Roemer told reporters before volunteering service at an NDMC school here.
Roemer said he was looking forward to the Oct 3-14 Games. ‘I look forward personally to it and anticipate successful Games,’ he said.
Britain, Australia, New Zealand and some other countries have issued travel advisories and raised concerns about possible terror threat during the Games.
Some 7,000 participants and officials from 71 teams are expected to attend the Commonwealth Games, India’s biggest sporting event after the 1982 Asian Games.
