Mohali (Punjab), Oct 1 (IANS) After a few initial scares Australia were 101 for one at lunch on the first day of the first Test against India at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium here Friday.

Winning the toss, Australia elected to bat first and lost the wicket of Simon Katich (6 runs) when the team score was just 13 runs. He fell leg before to Zaheer Khan.

Opener Shane Watson survived a scare as he slashed at the second ball of the match from Zaheer Khan but Virender Sehwag dropped the catch at gully.

Watson and skipper Ricky Ponting steadied the innings after the fall of Katich. Watson was on 44 and Ponting on 40 at lunch.

Fast bowler Ishant Sharma looked indisciplined – bowling six no-balls in his seven-over spell.

Ponting was caught behind the wickets by Mahender Singh Dhoni on Sharma’s bowling but that was a no-ball.

Another catch from Watson also went abegging.
